Help with 2002 Subaru Legacy stalling?
My 2002 Subaru Legacy has stalled out three times in the last year when I start it. The check engine light does not come on and my Subaru dealer cannot find a code that points to the intermittent problem. Each time they find something to do and charge me (replace alternator, replace neutral switch, replace ignition coil and spark plug wires) but the problem keeps coming back. I suspect what they are doing is having no effect on the real problem which I acknowledge is tough to diagnose since I cannot duplicate it at the dealer's shop. Anybody have experience with this?

Probably a camshaft or crankshaft sensor. Cam sensor is on timing cover on the driver's side. Does it happen during after or rain or during weather change. Regardless, its definitely some type of a sensor. I would check timing and crank sensors and maybe even temperature sensor. Also clean your intake. I mean its an old car, intake should be cleaned every 7-10 years on these newer cars with fuel injection.

Im sorry.. Your dealing with a ten year old car that stalls a few times a year.. It could be something stupid like its to cold or a plugged fuel filter or injector.. The dealer keeps going for the electrical maybe have the battery tested or filled? STOP going to the dealer for this! unless it happens daily STOP! They are ripping you off.. Not completely since you are getting new stuff but it is a stupid problem that is probably simple to resolve.. Auto mechanics always go for the extreme fix.. try simple first
